One hell of a week... x.x

SO... as my title stated... this week has been one hell of a week...
some parts fun but most parts not...

on monday... i had fun at my friend's surprise birthday party and an unplanned trip to in n' out at around 11 at night...
HOWEVER.. as we were walking out... we saw a firetruck, an ambulance, and a police car in front of a dorm near us... my friends and i all assumed that someone just caught drinking or doing drugs. unfortunately... the next day, someone told me that a guy tried to choke himself to death by wrapping his computer internet cord around his neck. His roommate walked into his room and saw the guy trying to suicide and ran out to ask for help. When he came back, the guy was sitting in front of his computer as though nothing happened. A while later... he tried to kill himself again. AS IF this story wasn't freaky enough... on thursday... i find out that the guy was actually someone i had met a few weeks before... APPARENTLY... he tried to kill himself because he thought that no one liked him... which is stupid since if i hated him... i wouldn't even bother saying "hi" to him and talking to him when i see him --

ON wednesday... my roomie had friends over and basically kicked me out of the room since she turned off the lights and stuff... which annoyed me a little since the room technically belongs to both of us and not just her... That night, i then had a talk with her... which resulted in me ending up almost in tears. THANKS to michael and steven for making laugh and smile again <3><

TODAY... there was a frat "glow" party where everyone gets glowsticks and dance with them... i really wanted to go but i couldn't because of my stupid workload... so i decided to just hang out with my friends for a while. Halfway, i went back to my room to get my camera to show my friend something... and i see two girls standing across from my next door neighbor's room. One of them had a tag that said "student housing" and i guess the other was the RA on call. As i walked past them, a cop walked out of the room... which scared the crap out of me... So basically... my next door neighbor got caught with alcohol or whatever has made him high lately... Which makes me sad since when i met him... he was a FREAKING cool guy...

so... those were the most interesting stories about all the crap that happened to me this week...
i excluded most of the boring stuff such as how it's now 3:03 and my roomie is still not back O.o...
and now i have WAAAAYYYYY too much hw to do and i shouldn't even be on this thing ><
ANYWAYS... i totally miss you guys <33

Week schedule.

Hoorayyy! Finally. My model drawings are due Thursday, but they moved the model due on Sunday at 6 PM. What the freak? Where the 6 PM come from? Please don't ask. It's too random. But thank goodness! I got that off my back. Now, I'm definitely going to pay attention to my drawings tomorrow and Wednesday even though I have a rough draft due Wednesday afternoon for my writing conference.

Five things I need to conquer:
1. Time management.
2. Craft skills on model making.
3. Do not fall asleep in lecture.
4. Just get the nerve and say hi to people instead of hesistating.
5. Do not be afraid of talking to Michael Leung, the drawing TA aka 5th year Architecture student. (:

for you other UC kids out there. :P

October 21, 2008 - After months of planning and hard work, UCSA registered over 40,000 UC students to Vote!!! We are not only leading the state in nonpartisan youth vote work, but the nation as well. Thanks to all the amazing volunteers who helped us make history. Here are the final registration numbers:

  • UC Berkeley: 9,425
  • UC Merced: 500
  • UC Santa Barbara: 10,241
  • UC Los Angeles: 8,519
  • UC Irvine: 2,643
  • UC Riverside: 1,125
  • UC San Diego: 3,936
  • UC Santa Cruz: 3,698
We win a free concert from Death Cab for Cutie from MTV. :D (Though at the moment, we can't fund the school part of it, so it might go to Berkeley).

Funny things about this listing.. first off, why is SB listed 3rd? and after Mercerd of all UCs. Next, WTF happened to Davis? Oo.

spambloggy forum

well, spambloggy usually refers to here.. but, now we have a spambloggy forum!

Happy HallowezzzzzzzZ...

I didn't sleep the day before because of an essay due on Halloween. So I was already in my costume as the panda/zombie. After class I just ate at the DC and crash from 4pm till 12am. What do you know? I slept through Halloween...lol.

day 2 of halloween (the actual halloween day)

A map.. for reference.

When they say its crazy, they mean it. Expect the worst. So here's a list of do's and don'ts for people who might be interested in coming up here next year (and know what to expect).

Do:
-dress up. the cuter the costume, the more attention you get.
-go with a UCSBer that goes in Isla Vista parties often
-know your alcohol tolerance
-know how to fight off drunk people
-know how to weave through crowds
-know people who are throwing good parties
-find several bigger/intimidating guys to travel with
-guard your cell phone like your life depended on it
-have phone numbers of people you're traveling with
-travel in pairs
-go to a closed party or..
-go to a frat party of a frat you know and trust

Don't:
-make this your first IV party
-drive. your car will get fucked up. guaranteed. you will either hit some drunk guy, or they'll hit you
-travel in large groups. "safety in large groups" does work, but the larger the group, the easier it is to lose people.
-DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT travel alone.
-dress scanty. seriously. unless you like being touched and hit on constantly
-bring anything of value, very easy to lose stuff here
-wear anything of value, you will get alcohol spilled on you, and odds are crowd weaving might beat up/tear your costume
-sit. especially if you're not a SBer, you will get arrested
-obnoxiously yell your college name in pride if you're not form UCSB. one of 2 things might happen:
-you get the crap beat out of your by your rival school/UCSBers who really don't want visitors
-you get arrested by the police for public drunkenness, cause they're aiming for outsiders
-drink. especially not if you plan on crashing random parties with people you don't know
-make out with strangers.
-wear heels. our roads are crap. there are times you need to run. you must stay standing for most of the night. they do break. you do get stepped on.

Judging from the above, you can pretty much guess how my Halloween was like. Let start by saying, it had a huge potential to be fun. I could see how it can be very fun. But I didn't go with the right people so... Here's what happened.

I decided to go with TASA people this time, since they always complain how I ditch them when they have a party for frat parties. These people usually have their own closed party in a friend's house. Most of these people don't look like they drink often (if at all). When they do drink, they get wasted, cause they usually have a house.

So we started at the house for the pre-party. Had some alcohol. Some people decided to go all out and get really really drunk. Not smart. We then were planning to crash a DP party. Having a group of ~50 people, with half of them not being able to walk straight, walking through concert size crowds, with even less people knowing where they were going, either because they were outsiders, or don't go to IV often.

So the person who owns the house, he was pissed. Too many people he didn't know were joining into the group, and the people he knew were getting seperated, lost, or whatever. So I ended up being the "desinated driver" of sorts (that had 3 shots.. but that's nothing anyways). It wouldn't be that bad of situation but..

These people have no common sense. I swear they're reckless. We have people running into crowds by themselves to take pictures with that guy with the cute costume, or going out by themselves to look for a friend, even though they themselves don't know where they are, and have no idea where the group is going, or where they are supposed to be going.

So I pretty much spent the whole night keeping track of people, organizing people into buddy hiarchies, assigning people to watch over people, telling people not to panic when the person they were supposed to be watching over gets seperated into another group and is being watched over by someone else. Then there were times when I had to purposely try to break people out of the group, cause they just joined in randomly and we had no idea who they are, push off some creepers, clear crowds, clear paths through crowds, break up fights, drag drunk people away from police, or run back and forth fetchign stragglers.

So when they couldn't crash a party at DP. Here's what DP looks like...

We went back to the house and had our own closed party, which also was a pain in the ass cause people didn't know their way back, and one of the girls went looking for her friend, and Daniel and I went with her cause girls really should not walk around alone in that crowd. Then the night got better. They really couldn't wander off anywhere except around the house. We pretty much stayed at the door to make sure no random people wandered in.

Oh, and it started raining, I guess that made police happy, cause they really could not do anything with crowds that size, and the rain pretty much broke up the crowds... at about 3am..

We made it back to the dorms at 5am. Learned that there's no one guarding the doors after 4am, so if you want to bring guests, that the time to do it.

Few random points..
-Tons of half naked guys, if anyone's interested. Girls too. Give them a bit more to drink and they take off more.
-People do dance on rooftops.
-They dance on fences too
-Non-SBers stand out like crazy. Seriously. We can tell.
-SBs purposely try to get non-SBers arrested.
-People break car windows and slash tires
-People jump onto moving cars

pre-halloween @ sb

We had noise ordinance enforced since Monday. Which just means, don't be too loud.

Today at noon we entered lockdown. It's just more annoying than anything. All doors are locked except 1-2 per building (front entrance). RAs are camping out everyone near the locked entrances. No guests.

So we just end up having people open the locked entrances for us from the inside. We're so lazy that we don't want to walk around to the other side of the building to enter, so we just wait by the side entrance and wait for someone to leave, which is then followed by a mad rush to the door.

top 10 things i have learned in college
1. bring sweatpants. these are a must. theres nothing better than running around on campus in your PJs, because when you get back, all you do is flop on your bed and die.
2. bring an ipod/mp3 player or a nice phone that plays music. theres nothing worse than running around on campus with no music. :(
3. expect strange things to happen. for example, apparently one of my suitemates watches porn.
its kinda funny but weird at the same time cause someone walked in on her.
4. expect to feel naked when you shower. the fact that anyone can open the shower curtain and be like BOOOO makes you feel extremely vulnerable.
5. schools have wireless internet for a reason. use it wisely. when you're in class & you're bored, nothings better than signing onto facebook.
6. no matter how you say you're not gonna drink, dont kid yourself. its college.
7. bring food to class.theres nothing worse than a professor talking about food while your stomach is growling like crazy. its not fun.
8. expect to pull allnighters..not from studying. but from partying. study hard, but party harder.
9. for those of us who don't know how to peel fruit. good luck. it sucks.
10. being bored is the worst of all evils for college kids. if you're bored...and its a friday or saturday night..you're not partying hard enough.

speaking of.
anyone going to the usc party on friday?
i'll be there :D

My life revolves around Architecture.

1. Everything I talk about relates to Architecture. (i.e reports, models, buildings, design)
2. I'm falling for a TA who is 5th year Architecture undergraduate.
3. Every time I'm walking across campus, I look up at all the buildings.
4. I'm always at the studio until 4 AM.
5. When I'm not at the studio, I'm in my room working on precedent papers & drawings for drawing studio.
6. I think I have no life because everyone else in my suite is always out so I go to Architecture to keep me busy.
7. I'm planning to apply for internships at Architecture firms during the summer...already..even though I'm only a 1st year student.
8. I need to meet more upperclassmen. And yes, that includes the really cute TA. (:

Okay. Talk to ya`ll later. Back to working on my Architecture papers. Sigh.

The Umbrella Corporation!

GASP! Could this be the secret entrance to the Umbrella Corporation!?

For those who have no clue what i'm talking about, that's the company in Resident Evil that started the T-virus and made everyone into crazy zombies! This was actually located in Merced College. My suitemate, Matt, and I were walking to the remote parking lot to his car and I stopped after walking over this and was like...WOAH! IT LOOKS LIKE THE RESIDENT EVIL COMPANY LOGO! So I took a pic XD.

what we do when we're not partying in sb

Wow. 3 entries from me in a row. I guess that's because I now relocate all my college info stuff onto here. :P

Anyways, here's a list (so far) of what we've done when we're not out partying:

1. We shoot pool.
2. We chill in the hallway and lounge.
3. We longboard/freeline in the hallway
4. We do cartwheels in the hallway
5. We side our cellphones across the floor of the hallway to see whose phone goes farther.
6. We play tag on break room couches only, jumping from chair to chair, without touching ground.
7. We jump on/over/off break room couches, trying to do flips and cartwheels.
8. We prop up, tilt, flip over those same couches and jump into them knocking them over.
9. We take stupid pictures with our stonehedge made of couches.
10. We dance on the pool tables.
11. We have food fights in the lounge.

:P

oh. and a picture of #9:

windy

add on point, different topic so different point.

Today was super windy in ucsb. My room faces the ocean (yes you can see it). Normally the ocean breeze gets blocked by the tall building right next to us, so if we want to cool off our room, we would just prop our door open and let the wind in the hallway (hallway windows are always open) blow into our room, and out our window. It's fun to watch all the dust in our room flr out the window.

Today the wind came at a window so that it came at our window directly. So when we opened the door, all the light objects(paper on desks) would start flying out cause it was a pretty strong wind. What sucks even more ( but wasn't too bad cause we're 5th floor) was that all the sand from the volleyball court right in front of our room blew up the against our wall (sucks for people in floors 1-3. cause their windows open all the way, and if it was open, all the sand would've flown in). We just had small amounts of very fine sand everywhere (only noticeable on the black top of my laptop).

I also realized, I DIDN'T BRING MY KITE YET CAUSE IT'S STILL IN MY CAR :(. Next time though... next time.. (which hopefully is sometime after next week when I have both my car and my kite).

lectures, discussions and labs

In terms of type of classes, I have 4 lectures, 3 discussions, and a lab. Computer science is technically a lecture, but it feels like a discussion, cause the professor does stop when we need clarification, and does answer questions mid-lecture. Writing is also technically a lecture also, but I consider it to be a discussion, small class size, and there's actual work. Now..

My lectures are environmental studies, math, computer science, and gaming studies. The environmental studies professor (who I think Sandra would love, since he's the guy leading all environmental studies research everywhere) is wonderful. He gives great lectures. His lectures bring up good points. At the end of his lectures, most of the people in the hall stand up and clap (except that one time he talked about how to use library resources, and what our paper needed to be one). Math lectures are deep, and involve lots of concentration to keep up, and its usually about how differential equations/formulas/theories work (so far). Since math is a pretty dry topic, its pretty boring. Thankfully he isn't monotone. Though yesterday, we had a sub, so I walked out of that lecture cause I couldn't understand anything he said (accent) and he was horrible at lecturing. Gaming studies usually starts by having the professor bring about a point for us to deeply analyze, and ends up with everyone debating back and forth. Fun class, fun homework. Computer science is really like a normal high school lecture (with better participants). Pretty small class size. I seriously think I should've taken a higher level computer science class. I understand everything professor explains.

Now comes my classroom habits. I usually stay pretty attentive during environmental studies. I fall asleep halfway through math. I sleep before lecture even starts until the end of lecture for computer science (I still have a perfect assignment score though, so yes, I do understand the course very well). So I sleep in half my lectures, that's not too bad.

Discussions are.. worse. Environmental science discussion talks about things completely different from lectures. They are actual discussions. There is work. It is required. So nothing I can do about that. Math discussions I walk in, check in, walk out when the TA turns around, that is, if I actually attend. Its optional, but highly recommended, I tend to stick with optional. Writing usually ends with a writing assignment. Finish the assignment quickly, leave. We can walk in and out during writing assignments, so it's ok. Hard to do a check in, walk out here, there's actually work due. Labs are pretty much like discussions. After the TA takes roll, I try to leave. Usually isn't too hard. He's supposed to check our lab results, but he doesn't.

Verdict? I still sleep when I'm bored in lectures. But I've upgraded from sleeping in discussions/labs to sneaking out/ditching. I love college. :D

my rant on stupid people too excited to learn

There are certain fields of study I feel "hard work" is simply not good enough. Fields such as, medicine, law, mathematics, and most importantly, engineering. So, I'm an engineer (as defined by the school anyways). I go to a tier-1 researched based university (don't we all?). You'd think that in one of the best universities in the nation, in the college of engineering, there would be a bunch of smart people.

So during the lecture, you would have people interrupting with "can you repeat that" or "what?" or "can you explain that again different?"

Seriously. What the professor said wasn't that complicated at all, in fact, its pretty straight forward and perfectly logical, and you have swarms of people (who, I might add, have the standard engineering student stereotype, glasses, poor hygiene, bad body shape, acne, high squeaky voice, no apparent social skill, and have really really nice computers). You'd think with all that time they spend studying, they would develop some forms of thinking.

I believe universities are places where you learn and think on your own, not relay information exactly as the professor explained it, getting confused at the smallest variation. Memorization is the lowest form of thinking. It's simply memory recall. Sure, having good memory can be a talent. But good memory is perfectly possible to obtain. Higher level thinking, not so much.

(pause rant cause I need to go to class)

So what happens when the normal teaching method changes from spoon feeding to information just enough so you can fill in the gaps? People fail and we get a wonderful 11:1 faculty to student ratio. These people need to stop stalling the lecture, and learn what office hours are for -.-

Just another interesting observation. This is when you notice the difference in people, from those who truly deserved to get in, and people who had "easy" teachers from "easy" schools who went through those wonderful SAT summer training camps many times. These are the same people who always had tutoring, never failed to get perfects on homework but only did so-so on tests.

10 updates from Berkeley

So I realized that I'm farthest one from all you people, especially you San Diego-ers! =(

I like lists.
Here's a list: 10 Facts about Berkeley

1. Squirrels here are FEARLESS.
2. I've never met so many people so EXCITED about studying. They even made up chants for their favorite study places in the library. (Mo Moffit, Mo Profit) (When you go Stacks, You never go back)
3. I walked across the Asian Ghetto the other day and saw all of Walnut (people) there.
4. Homeless people are EVERYWHERE.
5. Speaking of homeless people, I was sitting on the grass one day reading. A homeless man comes walking by and his dog drags him over right next to me. We start chatting for awhile, and he explains how he's going to bike to Washington DC to raise money for child slaves in South America or something like that. I ended up giving him 5 bucks and half a granola bar.
6. I'm vehemently battling freshmen 15 by walking up 8 flights of stairs.
7. Being the oldest UC campus... this place is OLD. I swam in a pool and gym that seirously seemed to be built in the 1800s.
8. I'm taking a class called "The Simpsons and Philosophy."
9. GO BEARS.

college+bored=artistic inspiration!

so, we marshall kids got some really really ugly planners to use for school. i mean i guess i should just be happy that we got one. but it was just so hideous so i had to change its appearance. lets just say, doing this on a sunday night (when you classes 8am the next day) and haven't even STARTED on the hwk isn't exactly the best idea in the world. but whatever. i got it done and somehow lived through this morning. :P
before the transformation of my planner ;O

&& AFTER! :D

Bored and worried (I think)

So apparently, there is nothing to do at UCR, and all of my classes are morning sessions so i have the afternoon to myself. So i have been doing some thinking.....and im debating on an issue. I've talked to michael and somewhat to cat but havent come to any conclusions yet.

For those of you who are saying "WTF????" Don't worry, this is just to post something about my thoughts to somewhat ease the restlessness and stress from this issue.

Final note: For those who have read this or helped me, Thank you.

welcome week

Small update. I'm back at Walnut. It's hot and boring here. I miss SB already, cause there was always something to do there (even the internet is faster than home internet). Spike still remembers me though!

I've been getting food (and other free stuff) off school dances, club socials, frat kickbacks, and what not. I've been to two frat parties (I'm missing out on two this weekend). They're great fun, friendly people, pretty girls (who are even more friendly/loud), and there's always food (I swear if there's free food, I'm there).

I love my floor. We're like, the party floor with all the asians in the school. There's always chats in the lounge, in the halls, or in our room. People play with my freeline skates in the hall. Half the doors are usually open (only on the guy's side though, the girls are always on our side so their doors are usually closed). I'm still trying to figure out who has ricecookers and who has pot and pans and who has rice and other foods and who has waterheaters (apprently, we're not supposed to have ricecookers or waterheaters, so its all shush shush).

I learned that I snore lightly on the nights I drink. haha.
so, this is what college is like.
not really liking it. about 20-30 minutes into my math lecture, some girl behind me accidentally spills her coffee. all over me. i mean its not her fault, but wow. what a way to start ucsd.
plus, i almost overslept. i set my alarm for 6:30 and somehow woke up at 7:30 instead. eek.
&& wow , talk about zoning out in class. i totally zoned out. ._. most boring lecture in my life.
i miss summer already.

First cut of the year.

So I was at the studio on Wednesday because I don't have classes on that day. Yes, hooray. But I had a final project due today so all of us were working in the studio. And I was cutting cardboard...but the edge was ridgy so I was mad. And I was cutting fast. Then I cut my index finger. ): It hurts. I lost a lot of blood. And shutuppp. I know I'm emo now. Haha. It's Architecture. What do you expect? Plus, I have three cuts on the outer side of my right hand. One cut (but not as deep as the index finger one) on the middle finger. And I burned myself three times from the hot glue gun. Architecture is a dangerous major. Seriously.
Well, at least I will be going to Westwood tomorrow for my drawing class' field trip.

Davis so far =]

so yesterday... i went to my friend's apartment...
HOWEVER instead of staying for a while... i ended up staying for the whole night since my friend's bf decided to tell us last minute that he needed to pick up his friend at Sacramento and take her home --...
In the end... we reached my friend's apartment at 10?... and we stayed over the whole night =]
SLEEPOVER!!! <3... i even got to watch "Dirty Dancing"... it's my favorite movie <33
So i'm happy ><

Apparently...
each day... i've been doing a little bit of decorating... and running around the campus.
The campus here is very nice =] It's extremely huge with lots of trees... free bus rides on campus driven by teenagers... and scary bikes --
I'm always afraid that i'm going to get run over TT
I mean... the people on bikes don't even freaking watch where they're going --...
Ex. I saw this girl on a bike coming towards me and she even says "excuse me"... so i moved out of the way, near the side of the road... the next thing you know... she almost freaking hits me -- like... wth...

Anyways... time to eat dinner =]
Talk to you guys later after yummy yummy food <3
Lurv... Char
so like, WTF. sd is boring.
people apparently don't know how to dance here. it looks like a bad middle school dance. things to do at night is practically NONEXISTENT. of course, unless you go off campus and meet people. seriously though, this place is so flippin deathly quiet at night. oh, and that pre-rush party we went to was lame. LAMEEE. ugh, you can ask clarice. she would know.

Thursday, September 18, 2008

I'm sleepy.

"OMG. IT'S 7:35! WE HAVE TO GET TO CLASS!"

So Linnsie slept at 3 and i slept at 4:30 this morning. And guess what? Our alarn clocks rang at 6:40 to 6:50 and we snoozed until 7:30. OHMYGOSH. I was freaking out because I was like "I don't want to be late". Seriously. This is the second time during this week that we snoozed for a long time. And we skipped breakfast. At least I bought some food after class as my brunch. If Melanie were in my place, she'll be hungry like heckkkkk.

You are very welcome to those who said this is a good idea. Pictures are certainly HELPFUL! (: Nice idea Jono & Ken. We should do that. Even though we have oovoo, we don't oovoo in the morning/afternoon. Haha. DIGICAM & WEBCAM!

Eh. I should've taken a picture of my room last night. It was a mess...full of my Architecture stuff. And now, I cleaned it so it's back to normal. I feel stressed out already!

UCSD

Me @ Geisel Library

OK. There is a reason why this school is called socially dead. Its deathly quiet.. and its not because I'm in the library, it's pretty devoid of life outside too.

Just dropped off Connie (saw Paulina) to orientation... and since all her stuffs in my car, I can't leave. Mom didn't let me bring my skates, so, not much to do other than leech off wifi in the library. It has a pretty view though. I'll attach pictures when I figure out how to use Connie's webcam.. (done) since I'm using her laptop (mom didn't let me bring that either).

My current view (4th floor of library). Note the lack of many people.

Someone save me D:

(seriously, all those fun times better repeat when we all reunite during our breaks.)
it'll be interesting to see what's been happening in each other's lives now that physical hangouts will not be as frequent. anyway, some 411! i'm bummy! =D not your typical bunny and i certainly don't look like one, either (you be the judge). i've already sneezed 15 times today (& counting). my nose is going to blow up anytime now. i'm just sitting here patiently waiting for that to happen...
good luck to those moving in tomadoes!
& for those attending the picnic, vote in the events page for what you'd like for dinner! =D

It's 2:52AM right now and that's a picture of me falling asleep in the study lounge trying to finish up my CORE assignments for tomorrow...T______T

Sighs...I should really stop this procrastination habit...and actually START doing something over the weekend...we'll see how things go this weekend...Zzzzz

Second Ken to post lol =D

HI EVERYONE!!!! just to remind you guys, to vote for thursday's dinner!!!!

I'm lucky number 3! (hopefully...)

Greetings! I'm Melanie, occasionally called "milano" or "poopie" by her patootie or simply "mel", and is a foodist. Wait...there's a word for it...a gastronomist? Something with gastro-- in the beginning. Anyway, I want to go to korean bbq and eat plates and plates of bugolgi and calbi and chicken. I also think "Viva la Vida" is my new theme song...and will additionally be my alarm to wake up to everyday. I hope my roommates don't get annoyed by that... :D

Grrr you Ken...

Dude...it's not like we don't know each other Ken...but...what the hell:
I like FREE food. I AM too skinny. I spend my free time RAWRING and...I am in COWLAND PRISON.
p.s. oh, I do have a blog myself, http://jonobloggie.blogspot.com/, which I need to update more often @_@ (but I like comments :D)
